What do you discuss at PTO meetings?

We discuss recent and upcoming PTO events, review PTO financials, and we hear announcements from Mrs. Willette (the principal).

Why should I come to PTO Meetings?

  • PTO is a great opportunity to become involved in your child’s education.
  • Get connected! There is no better way to get involved in what is happening at Salem Hills Elementary.
  • Stay informed. By getting involved at Salem Hills, you will be part of the team helping to make positive changes.
  • Come and share ideas, concerns, and experiences with other parents and educators at the school.
  • PTO functions are an opportunity to meet other parents and teachers, and be informed.
  • Be a role model, by becoming active in the PTO, you will be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on his/hers education.

What happens to the money raised by the PTO?

Each year a budget is created and voted on by our Board members. From this, we decide where the funds will go. We strive to raise at least enough funds to meet some of the items on the wish list of the school administration- 100% of the money raised through the PTO goes directly back to benefit our students. The PTO’s role has become even more critical as we raise funds to supplement the cost of the school’s needs. The PTO is pleased to provide some of
the extra items that our students and teachers receive. In the past, some of these items have included:

  • Additional resources for the media center
  • Playground equipment
  • Family nights
  • Book fairs
  • Teacher appreciation week

What programs does PTO support?

  • Music and STEAMM education
  • Art Adventure
  • Title 1 Events
  • Field Trips
  • Check out all our events!

How does the PTO acquire the necessary funds to sponsor so many projects?

Fundraisers and donations. Your support is essential to our success as a PTO.

How do I become a board member and what positions are available?

In order to be eligible for officer nominations, one must currently have a student enrolled at Salem Hills Elementary/ Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program, who will still be a student during the entire two year term. Nominees must also be able to attend the Board Meetings
once a month each school year.

The Nominating Committee will vote on the PTO meeting in May.
